What is VirtualCare?

VirtualCare is a computer program / phone app that allows patients to video conference with a doctor about their health concerns from the comfort of home. 

What Types of Issues can VirtualCare be Used for?

VirtualCare is ideal for health concerns that do not require any type of physical manipulation of the patient by the doctor, visits that can be completed by simple discussion or visual inspection. Some Examples:

-Most prescription refills

-Most skin conditions

-Review of results

-Referrals to specialists about previously documented conditions

-Discussions about mental health

What Types of Issues can VirtualCare NOT be Used for?

VirtualCare is not appropriate for emergency situations, newly occurring physical complaints, or refills of controlled medications such as narcotics.

How do I get a VirtualCare Appointment?

Step 1. Speak to reception at the Esquimalt Medical Clinic to determine when the next available appointment is. Currently VirtualCare occurs on Wednesday evenings from 5:30pm to 8 pm.


Step 2. Describe in detail with reception what you wish to be seen for, staff will then determine if VirtualCare is appropriate for your case and if any thing will need to be prepared for your visit (E.g. they may wish to take your blood pressure if you are hoping to refill a prescription.


Steps 1 and 2 should be done in person at the Esquimalt Medical Clinic, in particular if you are a not a patient of Dr. Clarke's family practice.


Step 3. Once you are provided with an appointment, ensure the staff have your current email address (with the correct spelling). You will then receive an invitation email at some point prior to your appointment time that will link you to the VirtualCare registration window. Step 4. Once you are registered you will receive an invitation from the clinic to a virtual appointment for the time you had previously agreed upon with the clinic staff.


Step 5. Ensure you are in the chat room at the agreed upon appointment time to begin you visit. We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the application prior to your appointment time.
